DC-3 (C-47)

First flown in 1935, the Douglas DC-3 is one of the most important aircraft designs of all time. Over 16,000 aircraft were built, with several hundred still flying worldwide. Most military versions were designated C-47 Skytrain. A special version, modified for paratrooper use, was known as the C-53 Skytrooper.

Boeing 707

Developed in the early 1950's, the Boeing 707 was the worlds first commercially sucessful jet airliner. This example, owned and flown by actor John Travolta, is painted in a 1960's Quantas livery. (Photos taken at EAA Airventure in 2008)

Boeing 747 Dreamlifter

Used to transport large components for the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, the Dreamlifter is a heavily modified Boeing 747. This is the third Dreamlifter built. A fourth unit is under construction. (Photos taken at EAA Airventure in 2008)

Airbus A380

The Airbus A380 performed a flight demonstration before landing on Tuesday, July 28th. The enormous aircraft was opened for public tours later in the week (Photos taken at EAA Airventure in 2009)

Build by Burt Rutan’s Scaled Composites, the twin fuselage, four engine, all carbon composite aircraft is designed to lift SpaceShipTwo to its launch altitude. SpaceShipTwo, scheduled to start flight testing later this year, will conduct passenger flights into space. (Photos taken at EAA Airventure in 2009)

Erickson Air Crane Water Bomber (Elvis)

The Erickson Aircrane S-64 Helitanker is derived from the military CH-54 and is able to transport and drop 2,650 gallons of water or fire retardant. Erickson Aircrane has several dozen S-64’s in service around the world. (Photos taken at EAA-Airventure in 2009)
